See the Animals

Where & When to See the Animals in 2008

Seeing farm animals is one of the major attractions at the Oregon State Fair. Promoting Livestock and Agriculture were the primary reasons that fairs were started. Please keep in mind, however, the real reason the animals are here is to be judged. After judging, animals go home, the barns are cleaned and new animals arrive to be judged. This process is called a change-over.

Different barns change over on different days and most of the barns change over more than once during the duration of the fair. On change over days there will be increased traffic around the barns with people moving animals in and out of their pens. Also, on change over days the barns may appear almost empty due to exhibitors moving out to make room for new exhibitors that will be arriving the next day. Please check the schedule carefully to make sure you get to see the animals that you most want to see.

This is a must have schedule of where and when the Livestock will be on the Fairgrounds throughout the 11 days of the Oregon State Fair. The types of animals that we have on the grounds change throughout the 11 days of the Fair, so be sure to check the dates and times carefully.

Mutton Bustin'

Mutton Bustin’

Children have fun holding onto a sheep and trying to last 6 seconds! Mutton Bustin' is similar to what adults do – when bull riding. Contestants ages 6 years and younger and less than 60 lbs. attempt to last six seconds on a sheep in a control and safe environment.

Qualifying rounds lead up to the championship performances. Sheep are released from a chute, just like with bull riding, and take the rider to the other side of the arena. It can be tough to hold on to the sheep!

Located near the livestock show ring, this is a great crowd pleasing show! Come and cheer them on! Prizes and ribbons awarded to placing riders.

Show times posted at the event entrance and will be determined by the number of contestants entered in each round. Cost to compete is $5 per ride.

Sponsored by: Home Depot, Dairy Farmers of Oregon, Double H Western Wear, and Priefert, and Coastal Farm & Ranch.
