Letter of Thanks - After Horse Summit Meeting (11-21-07)
Oregon State Fair Equine Affiliates,
Thank you to those able to join us at the first Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center horse show summit meeting on Friday November 9, 2007. We appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedules to give us feedback on the programming of the Oregon State Fair Horse Show as well as feedback on the exposition business. For those of you who weren’t able to attend and would like to make suggestions to the fair staff please feel free to do by e-mail or sending us a message through our website.
One of the suggestions coming out of the summit was to form small working groups that would get together on a regular basis to discuss and make recommendations to fair staff. We are going to split the groups into five categories:
- Policies and Ethics
- Stadium Renovation
- Sponsorship Development
- New Construction
- State Fair Horse Show Programming
If you are interested in serving on one of these committees please let us know. The Oregon state fair management staff will assign these committees by December 20, 2007. We will schedule the first committee meetings in January of 2008.

Invitation Letter - Before Horse Summit Meeting (11-6-07)
Dear Oregon State Fair Equine Affiliates,
In July 2006 the Oregon State Fair and Expo Center became a Division of the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. Together we are embarking on the development of a Master Plan for aesthetic enhancement at the Oregon State Fair and Expo Center. It is our goal to identify the best alternatives for potential redevelopment of the grounds and facilities.
For more than a year now, the new Oregon State Fair management team crossed the state to consult and collaborate with fair patrons, interest groups and Oregon citizens in an effort to create a new Business Plan. We have developed simultaneous plans, one for the Oregon State Fair and the second for the Exposition Center.
Now that the Business Plan is complete, its ultimate success rests on the support of the stakeholders across Oregon to participate in implementing the strategies. It is our goal to build momentum and collaboration of this planning process and help turn this Business Plan into a world-class Fair and Exposition Center - one that offers high quality facilities and event opportunities that will satisfy users - both Oregonians and visitors to our beautiful state - for generations to come.
You are invited to the Oregon State Fair Horse Summit meeting on Friday, November 9, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. in the Pavilion. Refreshments will be provided for your enjoyment. We would like to take this opportunity to discuss and update you on the status of our horse facilities, and address changes to State Fair and Exposition horse show programming.
This summit will include discussion on the following:
- Options to better serve and meet our objectives
- Changes and updates in policies, procedures and industry standards
- Timelines on facilities restoration and repairs
This is a statewide invitation and we know there will be much discussion on the topics listed above. If you are not able to attend the summit and would like to see what was discussed and give additional feedback, all the notes from the meeting will be posted here at the conclusion of the summit. You will be able to continually provide feedback on the topics by visiting our website.
