The O’Brien Auto Group will have select fuel-efficient vehicles on grounds including the new Wheego LiFe electric car. The Wheego LiFe electric car travels approximately 100 miles on a single charge and comes fully-equipped with driver and passenger airbags, anti-lock brakes, power windows and locks, and optional air conditioning.

The State of Oregon DAS Fleet division will also have select vehicles on display such as a Nissan Leaf and a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) powered Honda Civic along with a Toyota Prius with a plug-in conversion.

Youth Village Cabins

There will be a Youth Village Cabin on display manufactured by Palm Harbor Homes. Up to 25 of the cabins will eventually house the 4H and FFA youths during Oregon State Fair each summer. The Oregon Youth Village will have a camping and community feel with an outdoor area and the benefits of a hotel style stay for people of all ages. Select sustainability features will be highlighted.

Green Thumb Landscaping

Green Thumb Landscaping will feature a landscape display surrounding the Youth Village Cabin. From residential to commercial and large build-outs to small projects, Green Thumb Landscaping can help transform your space… come see how Green Thumb Landscaping transformed Youth Village Cabin space.

Marion County Public Works Environmental Services

Marion County Public Works Environment Services will be on hand providing residents and visitors with innovative solid waste, parks, and water quality programs. Their recycling and waste reduction programs, in particular, offer a broad range of programs and have helped propel Marion County into a leadership role throughout the State of Oregon.

Zero Waste efforts at the Oregon State Fair

The Oregon State Fair is once again proudly partnering with Garten Services in 2011 to collect and sort refuse generated before, during, and after the Oregon State Fair. There will be several teams of Garten employees collecting items discarded in receptacles (trash, recyclables, and compostables).

The Oregon State Fair along with Garten Services are committed to taking steps towards zero waste. Once again, we are combining resources to ultimately increase the quantity of recyclable and compostable material while continually promoting and educating fair patrons throughout the fairgrounds through the use of recycling and composting centers. These centers are designed to help fair patrons understand what is trash and what can be recycled or made into compost.

The 2011 Oregon State Fair will feature a sorting station located just south of the famous Horse Show Stadium. There, recyclable and compostable items will be sorted and prepared for transportation off grounds. Be sure to stop by and see recycling in action and learn how you can make a difference. Oregon State University will once again provide their OSU Solar Trailer to help power the area as needed.

With each passing year, the Oregon State Fair is looking to improve in all areas of sustainability. From renewable power utilization, conservation, and energy efficiencies at the state fairgrounds to the education and zero waste recycling and composting efforts, the Oregon State Fair is committed to lead by example.
