2010 Science Competition

Who:     Middle school grade students (6th, 7th & 8th grade level – currently enrolled) & Grade school students (3rd, 4th & 5th grade level –              currently enrolled)

Where:   Cascade Hall, Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem, Oregon

Why:       To foster Science education and innovation

 

Summary

The 2010 Science Competition will comprise of two divisions: middle school students and grade school students. Students currently enrolled in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades will be placed in the middle school division and students currently enrolled in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will be placed in the grade school division. Both the middle school and grade school competition will be a derivative of the current competition guidelines developed by Intel Northwest Science Expo (NWSE). The guidelines set forth by Intel NWSE were selected due to the familiarity and program awareness by Oregon Science Teachers.

 

Competition Changes for 2010

There are a few changes to the 2010 science competition, most notably is the competition day. Previously, the competition day was held during the Oregon State Fair. In 2010, the competition will take place on Saturday May 15th before the fair season. An overall best in class awards will take place during the Oregon State Fair Monday August 30th (Kids day). The other significant change is the inclusion of two separate competition divisions: middle school (6th – 8th) and grade school grades (3rd – 5th).

Awards & Prizes

Ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded. Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners within each respective category.

Cash Prizes

1st = $50.00

2nd = $25.00

3rd = $10.00

Each participant is also eligible for two free 2010 Oregon State Fair admission passes (one for the participant & one for a parent or guardian).

Gate Entrance: Gate “J” Main entrance off Sunnyview – follow signs to Cascade Hall

8:00am to 9:30am: Participants Arrive for Set-up

9:30am to 11:30am: Judging

12:00pm: Awards presented
