Oregon 150 - August 28
Oregon's 150th Big Birthday Bash begins Friday, August 28 with the Govenor, OR 150 Board members and members of the Oregon Hertiage Commission to kick-off Oregon's 150th celebration at 3 pm, near the big new fair tower (yet to be named). Oregon's amazing Wine Awards and Celebration in the beautiful Hart of the Garden 5 p.m., the Oregon! Oregon! play and Pink Martini at the L.B. Day Comcast (outdoor) Amphitheatre 8 p.m....and....a BIG Pink Floyd Laser Light show 10 p.m.iat the Sports & Recreation area to end a grand party in style!
The Oregon State Fair has planned several events throughout all 11 days to celebrate Oregon's heritage, history, industries, people and talents!

Oregon Ag Day - September 5
Saturday September 5, 2009 the Oregon State Fair will celebrate Oregon agriculture on Ag-Day with several fun and educational activities available for all fair goers to enjoy throughout the day. Don’t miss out on special events that will be available on Oregon State Fair’s Ag-Day:
Come to the Capital Press booth at the Oregon State Fair on Ag Day, Saturday, Sept. 5, and meet the people behind the West's Ag Weekly. Reporters, editors, designers and sales representatives will be there to answer questions about how the newspaper works.
Children can compete for a prize in the Capital Press scavenger hunt. Participants will be given a list and let loose on the fair to seek out Farm Facts. All completed entries will be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift certificate.
- The Oregon Auctioneers Association will be holding their final competition.
- See a display of vintage farm equipment from ‘Powerland’ and see large farm equipment at each entrance gate.
- The Oregon State Fair and Agri-Business Council will host a corn-shucking contest!
- Ag-Business and related vendors will be on-site for the day to sell, educate, promote, and provide fair goers with fun give-away items.
- For the kids, Mutton Bust’n, The Great American Petting Zoo & Super Science in Les Schwab’s Familyville along with Ag-Adventure!
- Animal shows during Ag-Day consist of a Long Horn show, a Swine show, and 4-H and FFA livestock shows.

Red Hat Day, September 1
It's a red letter day on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 for Red Hatters with special events and activities, plus $3.00 Fair admission-if you're a Red or Pink Hat Lady wearing red or purple (two of the Red Hat Society's official colors). Women over age 60 are known as "Red Hatters" while those under 50 are called "Pink Hatters.
The Red Hat Society celebrated its 11th Birthday this year. This world-wide sisterhood has nearly 40,000 chapters across the U.S. in all 50 states and in more than 25 foreign countries.
The Craft Warehouse of Salem Fabulous Red Hat and Fancy Hat Adorn Contest - Tuesday, September 1, 2009 2:15pm - This is it ladies! This is the contest to show your saucy side and come away with a beautifully decorated BY YOU, and definitely one-of-a-kind, RED HAT. Hurry and sign-up at 1pm because supplies and hats are limited so entry is restricted to the first 25 individuals or teams who sign up.

Veterans' Appreciation Days, August 28-29
The Oregon State Fair will honor Veterans during the first 2 days of the Fair, August 28 & 29, 2009. Veterans will be admitted into the Fair free of charge with a voucher available in Vets News. This newsletter is available from the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs.

Traditional Veteran displays will be in the Jackman-Long Building throughout the duration of the Fair. In addition the Oregon State Fair will provide special activities during opening weekend including a military vehicle display down the main concourse, a parade through the grounds beginning at noon on Saturday August 29th and a USO Style Show beginning at 1pm on the Comcast Center Stage.
Tribute to Veterans
Including a Recreated Bob Hope 60s USO Show - Performers scheduled to appear are Oregon's own The Brown Sisters, The Two Sisters Trio, Pastor Richard Probasco, Dennis Marcellino of The Tokens and Sly & The Family Stone, and The Dennis Mitchell Band with The Kingsmen (of *Louie, Louie* fame). At the end of the performances, there will be recognition of all Veterans in the audience. This is an emotional experience not to be missed. The show starts at 1:00 p.m. at the Comcast Stage. This event is sponsored by Spirit Mountain Casino and the Oregon State Fair, and hosted by Remembering America's Heroes, a non-profit organization based in Milwaukie, Oregon.
Parade
The 3rd annual Veterans Appreciation Parade will be open to all military organizations via a (NEW) application process. An application for participation will be required and an official approval letter from the Oregon State Fair management to participate in the parade. Veterans will be invited to walk in the parade, which is approximately 1/2 mile in length. The parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. Applications will be available in April in 2009 and must be submitted to the Oregon State Fair by May 15, 2009
