Temporary Employment
There is a wide variety of temporary positions available for the Oregon Parks & Recreation Department - Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center Division, just prior to and during the 2009 Oregon State Fair. Fair dates are August 28 through September 7, 2009. Galt Foundation will be managing the Oregon State Fair's temporary employment process including application processing, background checks and payroll processing. A special Galt/Oregon State Fair application is currently available online, at the Oregon State Fair office (M-F, 8-5) and at Galt Foundation offices and website.

Applications will be accepted at the Oregon State Fair office, 2330 17th Street NE Salem, OR 97301. Applications received will be sent to Galt for processing. Galt Foundation will process applications and provide OSF hiring managers with lists of qualified applicants for interviews. Interview dates, times and locations will be announced soon. Dates and times cannot be changed or rescheduled. Galt Foundation will be on-site at the Oregon State Fairgrounds with an Employment Trailer for application and new hire paperwork processing beginning August 1, 2009.
Typical jobs include - cashiers, admissions, ticket taking, grounds maintenance crew, event set-up crew, parking lot attendant, customer service workers, cashiers and department support positions. Other jobs (food service and concessions) at the Fair are handled through Oregon Department of Employment. They will also have a trailer on-site for application processing early August 2009.
Step one: Complete the new 2009 Galt - Oregon State Fair Application Form (link above). You may mail to or drop off at the Oregon State Fairgrounds, 2330 17th Street NE Salem, OR 97301. OSF will send applications to Galt for processing. Once processed, Galt will forward a list of applicants to the Oregon State Fair Department Managers.
Step two: You may be contacted by one or more of the Department Managers for an interview. Interview dates and times are set in advance and may not be changed.
Step three: Once you have been interviewed by a Department Manager, a job offer may or may not be made. If you are offered a postion, you will be asked to complete New Hire forms.
Step four: You must attend required training for your position prior to beginning work. A list of required training will be supplied and you will be notified of dates/times of appropriate training courses.
Step five: All temporary employees will be required to meet minimum Customer Service Standards and/or be required to complete Customer Service Training.

Volunteer Opportunities
Where do you find the most talented, professional, courteous and friendly volunteers - at the Oregon State Fair! Come join the 150th Birthday fun! There are many areas in which we can use your expertise to make this an outstanding event. From staffing fair departments (Farm and Garden, Home Arts & Hobbies, Art, Photography) to customer service and hospitality and assisting with competitions. Volunteers receive a T-Shirt and one free admission ticket for every 8 hours of volunteer service they provide. So come be a part of the fun this year - you'll be sure to make new friends, create memories, while at the same time welcoming over 365,000 guests to an experience they won't soon forget!

Volunteer at the Artisan's Village
Art organizations and individual artisans will return to the Oregon State Fair, August 22nd through September 1st, in their original courtyard location near the floral gardens. Volunteers are needed to assist artists at their booth locations. For more details see:

Wine Department Volunteers - volunteers to help set-up for wine celebration, service during celebration and awards ceremony and help tear-down and clean-up after this great opening day event, August 28th from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
BBQ Volunteers - volunteer to help taste, judge and experience real texas-style professional BBQ, limited amount of volunteers needed August 29 & 30th.
