Internships and Employment Opportunities

Position: Science &Technology Assistant Internship
Description: Assist the Program Manager in planning and execution of a variety of different science/technology events, exhibitions and contests.
Qualifications: Prefer student science/technology focus or interest. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred. A valid driver’s license and criminal history check required.

Temporary Employment

There is a wide variety of temporary positions available for the Oregon Parks & Recreation Department - Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center Division, just prior to and during the 2008 Oregon State Fair, August 22 through September 1, 2008. Jobs range from ticket taking to parking lot attendants, from customer service workers to cashiers.

Step one: Complete the 2008 Temporary Employment Application and mail to or drop off at The Oregon State Fair, 2330 17 th Street NE, Salem OR 97301. Application available here. Due to the large volume of applications, we will not be able to verify the receipt of applications.

Step two: You may be contacted by one or more of the department coordinators for an interview. Interview dates and times are set in advance and may not be changed.

Step three: Once you have been interviewed by a department coordinator you may be asked to complete a criminal history check form. All temporary job offers are contingent upon the ability of the applicant successfully passing a background and DMV check.

Volunteer Opportunities

Where do you find the most talented, professional, courteous and friendly volunteers - "Only in Oregon"! Which, by the way, happens to be the theme for this year's 2008 Oregon State Fair. Come join the fun! There are many areas in which we can use your expertise to make this an outstanding event. From staffing our fair departments (Farm and Garden, Home Arts & Hobbies, Art, Photography, etc.) to customer service and hospitality and competitions. Volunteers receive a T-Shirt and one free admission ticket for every 4 hours of volunteer service they provide. So come be a part of the fun this year - you'll be sure to make new friends, create memories, while at the same time welcoming our guests to an experience they won't forget.

Volunteer at the Artisan's Village

Art organizations and individual artisans will return to the Oregon State Fair, August 22nd through September 1st, in their original courtyard location near the floral gardens.  Volunteers are needed to assist artists at their booth locations. For more details see:


Volunteer for FREE Admission to the Fair by being a part of The Second Annual North Salem Clean Up and Beautification Event

The Oregon State Fair in partnership with SOLV will host The Second Annual North Salem Clean Up and Beautification Event on Saturday August 16, 2008 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. All volunteers will receive a FREE State Fair admission ticket along with other prizes and awards the day of the event.
